Group Class: Exercise

Dr. O'Donnell led the group session to discuss how cardiovascular health can be improved with daily exercise. Participants discussed how online tools and community contests can help motivate you. Each completed a plan of how they could improve or change their exercise regime.

The motivation behind this topic is research conducted into physical activity and its benefit to many health conditions.

JAMA (1999) defines this as "It is now clear that regular physical activity—bodily movement that is produced by the contraction of skeletal muscle and that substantially increases energy expenditure—reduces the risk for coronary heart disease, diabetes, colon cancer, and several other major chronic diseases and conditions. Exercise, as a subset of physical activity, is planned, structured, and repetitive bodily movement done to improve or maintain 1 or more components of physical fitness" and supported in multiple research studies (Mandsager, 2018; Rippe, 2018)"
